Eric Windeler’s life changed forever following the tragic loss of his son, Jack, to suicide in 2010. In the midst of unimaginable grief, Eric and his family made the courageous decision to turn pain into purpose by creating Jack.org, a national organization dedicated to youth mental health awareness, education, and advocacy. What began as a mission to honor Jack’s memory grew into one of Canada’s leading youth mental health movements.
Over the years, Eric became known as a tireless champion for young people. He firmly believed that youth deserved a meaningful seat at the table in discussions surrounding mental health policy, education, and support systems. Through his leadership, Jack.org empowered young Canadians to openly discuss mental health challenges, support one another, and help eliminate the stigma often surrounding these conversations.
Friends, colleagues, and mental health advocates remember Eric as compassionate, thoughtful, and unwavering in his commitment to helping others. His work not only changed systems and conversations but also directly impacted the lives of countless young people who found hope, connection, and support through the programs and community he helped build.
Tributes from across Canada continue to pour in, with many expressing gratitude for Eric’s vision and dedication. His legacy lives on through the thousands of youth advocates, mental health leaders, educators, and volunteers inspired by his work and by the movement he created in Jack’s memory.
